Thursday

I protest our use of unmanned drones because their civilian casualty rate is between (at conservative estimates) 33%, (at "moderate" estimates) 90%, and (from sources in the Arab world), 95%. I have heard it is hard to tell the difference between civilians and the population that fights among them. I experience, and can know, none of this.

I protest them because they allow us to keep our distance.

I protest their trace of circles in the air.
I protest the way they track the land.
I protest their use of fuel and fund.
I protest their use of everyone.
I protest the developments at home
That make it easier to atone!
(And easier to fight)
As one who flits and drives among
My friends, and family, so innocent
And dumb! O I am dumber
Than any one!

For Milton,
For Steven,
For my friend and her dad,

For the men who've died and the men who are sad,

For the fighting men and the insecure,

And the global poor and the working poor,
And the hard working not-races of men and women,
And the carrying on of families and tradition,

And the breaking of the codes that bind us in,
And the breaking of the codes that bind us to?

Who first lost what was right in front of you?
