I no longer go to Wendy's (not that I don't still have love for my former order (triple cheeseburger, biggie-sized, with an order of chicken nuggets)), and I still watch sports, both guiltily (the way the industry contributes...) and with great joy (the games—basketball especially—still move me). I spend my time writing, and reading, difficult poems that "undermine language." I also buy a whole lot of prepackaged food, things from all over the place and that I have no sense of or idea for. Sometimes I say hi to my neighbors.
Sanders announced his retirement on July 28th, 1999. My old best friend Will, who I hardly ever talk to now, works real estate in New York. One day, he hopes to make enough money to comfortably support a family.
"It was something that I felt I had to do," Sanders said. "In many ways, I felt that football chose me. It wasn't that I wanted to play. I had to play."
